Navigation
After a crewmembers time in the Deck Department, they
can elect to pursue a position in Navigation. As a member of the
Navigation Crew they will learn to navigate a vessel in inland and near
coastal waters. You will learn to keep the Ship's Log, and other
records. Crewmembers will also learn to operate modern navigation
software, and plot and track positions with the assistance of Radar and
GPS systems.
The Navigation Department is Led by a Crew Leader (a youth member under the
Bosun and Bosun's Mate) and an Assistant Crew Leader. The boys run
their department under the supervision of the Navigation Officer
and his Mates (adult leaders).
