Deck
All new crew members start in the
Deck Department where they will learn the basic jobs of lookout and
helmsman, as well as learning to handle lines, fenders and anchors.
The department is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the
vessel, outside of the Engineering and Navigation department
responsibilities. The crew handles cleaning and painting of the
vessel, along with associated repair work.
The Deck Department is Led by a Crew Leader (a youth member under the
Bosun and Bosun's Mate) and an Assistant Crew Leader. The boys run
their department under the supervision of the Deck Officer
and his Deck Mates (adult leaders).
